The TRANSCANTABRICO: Leon - Santiago de Compostela in 8 days
Can you imagine eight days and seven nights on board of a train and still want more? That happens to the passengers of the "Transcantabrico" very often.
The lounge cars
From Leon to Santiago de Compostela or from Santiago to Leon, all the magic of northern Spain is waiting for you, from the plains of Castilla y Leon to the seas of Cantabria.
All the beauty of the "Green Spain", with its landscapes and monuments and the delights of its unrivalled gastronomy, awaits the passengers in this incredible hotel on wheels.
The Transcantabrico has revived the tradition of "railway cruises" and made travelling the greatest pleasure ever.
The four lounge carriages of El Transcantabrico are the most unusual and beautiful places on the train. They are veritable rail treasures that are much admired owing to their exquisite design, their finish and the interior decorations. These are the common areas of the train, where over the more than twenty years of recent history many a lasting friendship has begun, inspired and encouraged by the congenial ambience.
One of the lounge carriages has a bar and dance floor. This is the "pub carriage", decorated and lit like a small night-club, where lively entertainment is provided every night until the early hours of the morning. Another lounge carriage also has a bar where you can sit back and have a quiet drink. The other two lounges are for other types of entertainment, such as reading, enjoying a board game with your fellow passengers, talking or watching the passing scenery through the large windows. And wherever you are, you will always be served by our attentive waiters.
Passengers are offered daily newspapers, magazines, a thoughtful collection of books from the library, television and videos; all that you need to make your journey a pleasure.
Each of the suites in El Transcantabrico offers guests a space designed for rest and privacy. Passengers will sleep comfortably, as the train stops at a station at night, to avoid the bothersome rattle and give guests a chance to go out and enjoy the city's nightlife, if they so wish. Each compartment is equipped with a complete range of toiletries. The electrical outlets are 220v.
The Suites come with a double bed and have luggage storage, minibar, safe, closet, desk and a telephone with an external line. They also boast a private bathroom with hydro-sauna, whirlpool and steam bath, as well as a hairdryer.
The air conditioning, heating, piped music and lighting in the suites can be individually adjusted. The large windows offer excellent views of the landscape. The inside of the train is completely connected, allowing guests to walk freely through it.
An excellent team of professionals do their best to guarantee that you have a pleasant and enjoyable experience.
Gastronomy plays a very important role on the route of El Transcantabrico. Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country and Castilla y Leon are, in the opinion of the many chefs and gourmets the regions where you can find the best cuisine in Spain. The cheeses, sausages, meat, vegetables, fish and seafood are all universally renowned.
The restaurants on our route not only select the highest quality food and have them prepared by excellent professionals, they are also the ideal setting for tasting the local cuisine.
All our menus include a careful selection of wines that blend harmoniously with the ingredients of each lunch and dinner. Coffee and liqueurs are also included.
A bus will follow the Train throughout your trip. When the train reaches the stations along the route, the bus will pick you up and take you on the scheduled trips, the restaurants and for any other purposes along with the guides.
The accompanying guide will share all the trips by bus and train with the passengers and will also take them to restaurants for lunches and dinners and on all the visits and excursions, in many cases with the additional help of local guides.
Other services include laundry service, health care, special menus if you inform us when booking about any special dietary needs.
