Javea (in Valencian: Xàbia) is a small port town at the North of Costa Blanca, 90 km from Alicante and 113 km from Valencia. It is situated in a bay that is bordered by two rocky capes.The Old Town  is located three kilometers inland and with its narrow streets, whitewashed houses and medieval palaces it is absolutely worth a visit. The village is dominated by the fortified church of "San Bartolome" , built in the 14th to 16th Century.The port is located below the rocky slopes of the Cape San Antonio in a very nice natural setting. It consists of a fishing port and a marina, which has more than 350 berths. From here you can go by boat to Denia, Calpe and Altea. Behind the port there is the old fishing village with a typical Mediterranean atmosphere.The beautiful flat sandy beach "Playa del Arenal" is located in the center of the bay and it is the tourist center of Javea. It is surrounded by a beach promenade with a variety of restaurants, bars and shops. In the summer season the Arenal is the heart of the lively nightlife of Javea.The other beaches of Javea have gravel, stones or rocks and are popular in particular with divers because of the beautiful underwater world. Around Javea we find many cycling and walking paths that lead us to diverse viewpoints and to the natural park Parque Natural del Montgó. From the top of the mountain Montgó you may enjoy incredible views; on clear days one can see from here even the island of Ibiza which is 90 kilometers off the coast. Below the mountain there is the area of Les Planes, where you can admire eleven wind mills from the 14th to 18th Century. At Cape San Antonio, which can be reached by car, there is a lighthouse. In the gastronomy of Javea we find lots of fish and seafood, but also rice dishes, desserts and fine regional wines. |
